Dear Students and Families,
Welcome to our classroom website. Please feel free to look around. The tabs at the top will help you navigate the site. The pictures and information on this site may be from the last several years, and can give you a small picture into what our school year may be like. Delivering the News Problem Solver
Students worked in groups to find unique ways to "deliver the news." They were given 10 minutes and one sheet of newspaper. Their job was to brainstorm as many ways as they could think of to move the newspaper sheet from one side of the classroom to the other. The only catch- when it was their groups' turn, they couldn't name a strategy that had already been given. Here are the creative ways students discovered together...
- crush the newsprint into a ball, and place it along with a white board marker into a sock- toss it across the room
- turn the newsprint into a paper airplane and fly the news across the room
- roll the newsprint into a ball, and place it into a sock- gently toss across the room (took more tosses than the idea with the white board marker)
- place the newsprint onto a clipboard and slide across the room on the carpet like a sled
- crush the newsprint into a ball, place it along with 2 white board markers and an eraser into a sock- toss across the room
- place the newsprint onto a rolling chair and roll across the floor
- turn the newsprint into a boomerang and fly across the room
- carry the newsprint in your hands and walk across the room
- crushthe news into a ball, and roll it across the room
- turn the newsprint into a hat, and walk across the room with it on your head
- blow the newsprint across the room with your breath or a straw
- wrap the newsprint around an object, like a ball, and toss it across the room

Wednesday, Sept. 9, 2015 Return of the Three Little Pigs
Student groups were challenged today to build a house of straws for the 3 Little Pigs that the Big Bad Wolf couldn't blow down. Their only materials were straws, a pair of scissors, and a hole punch. They had 30 minutes to complete the challenge. At the end, chosen students had 30 seconds to try to blow down the houses without touching either the table or the structure.

We are going to do this activity again in the Spring, when we read and write Fairy Tales. Some suggestions were... make the groups smaller, get more time to plan/ work, have a bigger variety of materials: straws, toothpicks, clay, tape, scissors, hole punches, sticky-tac, paper.

Wednesday, Sept. 9 The Lost Coin
Here are some very creative reasons why the boy may have left the shiny, gold coin on the ground...
- it was tail-side up, and may be unlucky
- he was very honest- it wasn't his coin
- the coin may be dirty
- he is late and doesn't have time to pick it up
- there was a rat/ spider/ snake near the coin
- it was wrong thing to do to pick it up
- he is leaving it for the person it belongs to
- he is allergic to metal
- there are bugs crawling on it
- the coin is very, very hot
- it is stuck in some gum
- it is not a real coin
