What is a Natural Resource?
- A natural resource is something that is found in nature and can be used by people.
- Earth's natural resources include light, air, water, plants, animals, soil, stone, minerals, and fossil fuels.
- People need some natural resources to stay alive. They use others to make their lives better.
Renewable Natural Resources: if resource can be replenished within a relatively short period of time (a human lifetime).
plants harvested as trees or food crops, or plants for ornamental purposes animals kept as pets, or livestock grown for food or leather fuels water, wind, thermal, sun |
Non-Renewable Natural Resources when resources are gone forever once used, because they take millions of years to regenerate.
fossil fuels: oil, coal, natural gas minerals: gold, silver, copper, iron, aluminum, silica |

What are Renewable and Non-Renewable Resources?
Resources that are renewable are those that can be replaced in a short amount of time. We must use them wisely, so we don't deplete them too quickly, or forever. Natural resources can become scarce or extinct.
Resources that are non-renewable are those that can't be replaced within our lifetime. These resources, like fossil fuels, may take millions of years to form. We should conserve the use of this type of resources as much as possible.
